CASE FOR CHANGE
Shauna O'Handley
Chief People & Places Officer
It's time for HR to start challenging the allure of tech obsession and the privilege of generous tech budgets. It's easy to scapegoat current technology as the root of all our problems. Yes, tech can transform, but that’s not for free. When that is not possible, we need to lean in to constraints as opportunities for a different kind of innovation. Transforming HR isn't just about ripping out and replacing tech — there are many of us who have learned this lesson well. Instead, it is about reimagining our approaches and making the most of what we have.
Our collaboration with Veran has illuminated a fundamental truth: while great technology undoubtedly enhances our capabilities, true success in HR stems from nurturing meaningful connections and experiences for our people. It's about fostering a culture of employee-centricity that propels both individuals and our business forward. Together, we're not just navigating constraints; we're redefining what it means to empower our workforce and drive organizational excellence. Veran has helped our team shift our mindset, to remove the singular focus on tech and get back to what matters most: how our team create continuous value for our people and our business through our processes, programmes and yes, even our existing technology.
PHASE ZERO
Transformation in Human Resources must be underpinned by robust controls especially around data.
With Veran’s expertise and knowledge of Workday implementation we successfully made a big leap forward and created a platform for increased contribution of the function to the firm’s strategy.
Veran bring not only experience and knowledge of the technical challenges but also an understanding of what HR departments are facing in terms of demand for support. When required they provided leadership and were able to ensure key decisions were made at the right time.

We chose Veran as a partner for Ordnance Survey because they fully understand what it takes to bring about change in an organisation who has done things the same way for a long time.
Their consultants have expert knowledge in HR from a holistic perspective which was vital to us as we didn't just want to implement new technology but bring about transformation of culture and behaviours. The team always delivers quickly and to a high quality as well as being enjoyable to work with and teaching us best practice throughout the project.
Backed by the benchmarks and insight from their network myHRcareers and strong relationships and experience working with other government departments, I am confident that we are setting the business up for future growth enabled by automated, efficient and future proof ways of working.

I engaged Veran to help WEX understand how we could better utilize Workday as our system of record to improve processes and enhance the HR service we provide to our global organization. Veran's consulting provided the foundation for transformational change here at HR at WEX.
Their analysis of our systems and how we can more effectively utilize Workday was exceptional and has enabled us to define a roadmap for change that we believe will ultimately deliver an enhanced employee experience, become more efficient, and assist with our compliance efforts. The expertise and insight brought to WEX by the Veran consultants has added enormous value to our business.
IMPLEMENTATION
It’s not common [in our business] for a project to have the feeling that everybody is invested and all working together with a can do approach to make something a success. It’s been really refreshing working with you because your own contributions have really been the main factor in all of this, and did much to put me at ease that everything was being taken care of and done properly.
In particular……your unfailing assistance, flexibility, diligence, tenacity, willingness to help (and probably most important of all - your patience!) I've been very grateful for.

Thank you for the
enormous effort and dedication from
Veran on this programme. It’s a first for Arriva and I know at times it’s not been an easy journey. This has been a fantastic programme to be involved in and a major part of that has been the great people we have had in the team.
You have brought the best ‘can do’ outlook coupled with calming influence I think I have ever seen, even when at times any normal person would have been tearing their hair out. It has been a very great pleasure to have worked with you.
Thank you again, I am very grateful for what you have brought and everything you have given to make the programme a success.

PHASE X
AI & AUTOMATION
...thanks to you all for your efforts with bringing the robots to life. It’s not common in the Home Office for a project to have the feeling that everybody is invested and all working together with a can do approach to make something a success.
It’s been really refreshing working with you because your own contributions have really been the main factor in all of this, and did much to put me at ease that everything was being taken care of and done properly. Your unfailing assistance, flexibility, diligence, tenacity, willingness to help (and probably most important of all – your patience with us during the hypercare period!) I’ve been very grateful for. Hypercare felt challenging, but knowing you were both there and ready for anything really helped get us through it, and I think gave the team a lot of confidence that the robots would be a success, rather than looking on it cynically as an IT project just dumped on them to get on with.
So from me and on behalf of the rest of the team, thanks again; it’s been really good working with you all.
